About

The Intellectual Property and Development Office is part of the Heliopolis University Innovation and Research Observatory (HIRO). The Office is responsible for the implementation of the intellectual property (IP) policy of Heliopolis University (HU), and serves as a focal point for the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Ministry of Scientific Research.

Here at the Heliopolis University’s IPO, protecting intellectual property is one of our main priorities. The Intellectual Property Policy adopted by HUSD emphasizes ensuring that such IP accrues to the respective creator or contributor.

The Intellectual Property Office handles all IP resulting from research within HU in a way that serves the wider community. The reason is that HU adopts a balanced approach to IP which ensures that developmental interests are not affected by IP rights.

What is intellectual property?

Intellectual Property means creations of the mind which could take various forms such as inventions, literary and artistic works, designs, symbols and images. IP gets protected and its owner is granted a right, hence intellectual property rights. Different forms of IP are protected by different kinds of rights, such as patents for inventions, copyrights for literal work and music, industrial designs…
